The FFHIC (F2F) is a
HRSA funded position that is responsible for providing 1-on-1 support to New
Mexico families of children with special healthcare needs to navigate the
complex healthcare systems. I am also privileged to work at the state and
federal level with providers, advocacy organizations, and policy makers to
bring the patient and family perspective into meetings and to provide training
and supports to ensure success of family advocates in those encounters. I work
with the Native American population of New Mexico to help them navigate their
unique set of benefits and systems and to included them in policy activities.
Duties include preparation and submission of progress reports and final reports
through the hrsa.gov portal, production of cultural and linguistically
appropriate trainings for diverse learners, and high-level health policy work.
Independently constructed and facilitate Project ECHO clinic with participants
from each of the four Managed Care Organizations, Human Services Division,
UCEDD/LEND, Children’s Medical Services (Title V), Department of Health, and
other community organization interested in healthcare financing for children
with special healthcare needs.
The New Mexico Disability Story

This is a
part time, grant funded research project. The New Mexico Disability Story is a
statewide, inclusive research project to document the history of disability in
New Mexico from 1940-present into a textbook, a feature length documentary, and
a traveling exhibit. I currently oversee all research, grant writing,
production scheduling, and maintain the website and provide all original
content.

manage stress and coach with strong study skills.

I work to ensure that the civil rights and
best interests of individuals with developmental disabilities are considered
when they are in the process of transferring their legal rights as a free adult
to the care of either an appointed or chosen guardian. As court visitor, I am
assigned a case and I interview the person who has been deemed “incompetent”
and the person who will be gaining guardianship rights over them. I prepare a
report that articulates to the presiding judge any concerns or comments I have
and provide a landscape of the relationship. Occasionally I am required to
testify in court on my report.

around topics identified by the prioritization process. Provided expert
testimony in public meetings as an advocate for families and caregivers.

Services to establish a task force to address the 10-12 year waiting list for
the Developmental Disabilities Waiver (DD Waiver). The waiver provides medical
and social supports to persons with cognitive impairment in their community. The
task force is charged with reducing the wait time to 3 years by 2018 through
cost reduction, change in funding streams, and waiver redesign.
